Whether it’s helping feed those in need or supporting those affected by burn trauma, at SWC, we’re committed to giving back to the community where we live and work.

At SWC, we believe in giving back and that when it comes to charity, the best impact can be made when it’s done at a local level — in our own community. We support many local causes with our time and donations, rather than a single donation to a larger cause.

The causes we’ve chosen to support are near and dear to our team members’ hearts and minds, and include the following not-for-profit organizations:

4-H, which is short for “Head, Heart, Hands, Health,” is the nation’s largest youth development organization, supporting the growth of confident young people who are empowered for life today and prepared for careers tomorrow. In San Diego, 4-H offers non-formal educational youth programs coordinated by the University of California’s Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources. By helping young people discover and develop their potential, 4-H San Diego County helps local youth build self-confidence while learning to understand others.

The Burn Institute in San Diego provides life-changing services for burn survivors. Each year, the Burn Institute reaches thousands of youth, adults, and seniors in San Diego and Imperial Counties through programs and services that help prevent fires and the resulting injuries. For people with burn injuries and their families, the institute provides support programs and financial assistance.

Through advocacy, research, and education, the Center for Justice & Reconciliation at Point Loma Nazarene University coordinates the studying of fair trade and worker rights, immigration and racial justice, and human trafficking. The organization’s work includes student-led initiatives, nationally recognized research projects, community leadership, and educational outreach.

The Escondido Rotary Club is the largest of any service club in all of North San Diego County. The organization’s 200-plus members — including our own Laura Stees — is a cross-section of our community’s political, civic, and business leaders and professionals. These civic-minded individuals unite under Rotary’s banner of “Service Above Self” to conduct a wide range of humanitarian projects, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and work toward world understanding and peace.

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity found its earliest inspirations as a grassroots movement on an interracial community farm in Georgia. Since its founding in 1976, the Christian housing organization has become a leading global nonprofit, working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up, partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and then pay an affordable mortgage.

The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank is a hunger-relief organization that annually distributes 28 million pounds of food to 350,000 people per month in San Diego County. The organization provides nutritious food to people in need, advocates for the hungry, and educates the public about hunger-related issues. About 24,000 people volunteer at the Food Bank’s warehouse every year, which supports the distribution of food directly to families and individuals in need at more than 200 distribution sites throughout the county every month.

Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego is our region’s top pediatric medical center, and its only designated pediatric trauma center. The center treats children from birth to 18 years of age, as well as a small number of adults with certain conditions for which we have specialized services. With more than 700 active research studies underway — including hundreds of active clinical trials — Rady treatment and care is informed by world-class scientists, researchers, and clinicians who focus their talents on preventing, diagnosing, treating and curing childhood disease through genomics and systems medicine research.
